Did I Mention Jozi is Pretty?

You already know that Jozi is pretty from the rooftops. You know Jozi is pretty from the ground. I am now here to tell you that Jozi is pretty from highway overpasses, too.

View of Market Street from the Joe Slovo Drive overpass, just east of the city centre.

I took my usual Sunday evening Instawalk with the Instagramers. We met at Maboneng, strolled around for a bit, then walked a couple of quick blocks to the exit ramp for the Joe Slovo Drive overpass. We walked up the exit ramp (it’s easy to do – there is a sidewalk so it’s pretty safe) onto Joe Slovo, where we witnessed a spectacular sunset over the city.

building and street

I think this is President Street. So pretty.

junk yard

Even this junk yard is pretty. Although there is a very sad-looking dog living there, seemingly alone, and that isn’t pretty at all. A story for another blog post.

wide building

Not the prettiest building but the sky makes up for it.

Best Enough

I actually shot this at the bottom of the overpass, not on it. But I had to include the photo for obvious reasons. Not best, but best enough. Pretty too, in a quirky, Jozi-ish kind of way.

While I’m on the subject of Jozi prettiness, I want to mention that I’m participating in a really cool event this weekend: a “Media Weekend in the City”, sponsored by the Joburg City Tourism Association (JCTA). I’ll be spending the weekend in a hotel downtown, doing fun things in the Joburg inner city, and then blogging about my experiences. Sounds fun, right? You’ll be hearing all about it soon enough.

Also, I’m working with the JCTA on social media stuff. Please follow the JCTA, a.k.a. “JoburgCity”, on Facebook (www.facebook.com/joburgcity.net) and Twitter (@JoburgCity), for updates on what we’re doing over the weekend. The JCTA is a new, grass-roots organization – a small group of people and businesses who are passionate about showing the world how great downtown Joburg is. I’m proud to be involved and so stoked about all the amazing things that are happening in Joburg. I haven’t even told you the half of it yet. I can’t imagine a more exciting place to be right now.

More Jozi prettiness is on the way.

Sunday Morning at 44 Stanley Avenue

How have I never blogged about 44 Stanley Avenue, the coolest shopping and dining complex in Joburg, which is only five minutes from my house?

I guess it’s wrong to say I’ve never blogged about 44 Stanley; I’ve mentioned it countless times over the years (see here and here) when writing about specific restaurants or shops that are there. But I’ve never written a dedicated post about 44 Stanley as a destination and it’s about time I did – especially now, with the holidays upon us.

Photos From Braamfontein's Indwe Park

I’ve been dreadfully uninspired lately, struggling to think of anything I want to blog about despite having a long list of great ideas (many of which you, my readers, provided in September). I’m finding it hard to feel positive about life at the moment. But on Saturday Thorsten and I got the chance to visit Indwe Park, an indigenous garden and sculpture park in Braamfontein, and I knew I had my topic for today.
