In a continuation of this series on my favorite new Jozi coffeeshops, I bring you Thirdspace in Fourways.
Yes, Thirdspace is in Fourways, which means yes, it’s in a strip mall and opens out onto a parking lot. Trust me though – this is a strip mall coffeeshop worth visiting.
Fourways, as I’ve written in a previous post, is a far-northern Jozi suburb known for its abundant shopping malls and traffic congestion. Navigating Fourways can be frustrating and leave one longing for an escape – a secret oasis off the road with comfortable chairs, good coffee, sandwiches, and free wifi.
Thirdspace is just such an oasis.

Coffee + Work at Thirdspace
In addition to being a coffeeshop, Thirdspace is also a coffee roastery and a co-working space. This place is extremely popular among freelancers, because it’s free and people are welcome – in fact they’re encouraged – to stay as long as they please. So if you want to spend the day working there I suggest you arrive early to snag a table. (They’re open from 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)

I went to Thirdspace to do some interviews for another story I was working on. (More on that at some point in the future.) I didn’t use the co-working space per se, but I did drink a lot of coffee and sample the food.
The coffee served at Thirdspace is expertly roasted and delicious – some of the best you’ll find in Joburg. I was also impressed with the sandwich I had.

If you find yourself adrift in Fourways and in need of caffeine, Thirdspace is the place to go. The only challenge could be finding a seat, but Thirdspace has a secret upstairs space (where the coffee-roasting machine is) with additional seating.
Thirdspace is at 2 Valley View Shopping, Campbell Road, Fourways. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
I guess it’s wrong to say I’ve never blogged about 44 Stanley; I’ve mentioned it countless times over the years (see here and here) when writing about specific restaurants or shops that are there. But I’ve never written a dedicated post about 44 Stanley as a destination and it’s about time I did – especially now, with the holidays upon us.

It makes me smile, when I see it.
