Message From the 2Summers Muse

From the Melville Cat:

Heather is short on blog material this week, so she asked me to provide some entertainment for her audience. I complied by presenting myself around the house in a series of creative poses, inviting Heather to photograph me with that instrument called an iPad.

Pink Pride

Johannesburg’s annual gay pride parade, Joburg Pride, happened today. I wrote a long post about Joburg Pride last year, so I won’t torture you with another one. I marched more as a participant than a blogger this year, and besides, it was just too damn hot to take lots of photos.

Sunday Morning

It’s been a while since I’ve done an Instagram for Art’s Sake post. Here’s a shot that I took right as I woke up yesterday morning. The Melville Cat had just finished a bath and was about to go outside for a morning stroll. I grabbed the iPad (always next to my bed these days) and caught the scene just before Smokey departed.

Jailhouse Photo Exhibition

Yesterday I put on a photo exhibition. In prison.

No really, I did. These jail cells are adjacent to the atrium where my photos were displayed.

Strange, but true. Constitution Hill is a National Heritage Site. The 120-year-old fort/prison on Constitution Hill – which is just down the road from Melville, in Braamfontein – has played a pivotal role in South African history, from the first Anglo-Boer War through the apartheid struggle and beyond. Many important historical figures were imprisoned and tortured there, as were thousands of others whose lives and stories have long been forgotten. It’s an eerie, beautiful place – a good place for displaying photos.
