Pop-Up Travel: A Beautiful Church in Zimbabwe

Last November I visited Zimbabwe with Ray’s family. During that trip, while driving back to Harare after our holiday in Nyanga, we turned off the A14 highway at a small sign for St. Faith’s High School. We were in a Zimbabwean province called Manicaland, a few minutes east of a town called Rusape.

Most of you probably know about the JoziPizzaWars by now but if you don’t, read here. The war rages on.

Today’s post includes reviews of four diverse pizzerias. My co-conspirator Tim reviewed most of these places in his first JoziPizzaWars post, so check that out if you’d like to compare our opinions.

Jozi Top Fives: Walking Tours Edition

I wrote a feature about Joburg walking tours for the February 2015 issue of BA High Life magazine. I’m really excited about the article but you’ll only be able to read the full feature if you’re flying on British Airways in Southern Africa this month.

Last Friday, an artist named Amanda Palmer performed a show in Joburg at the Sheds @1Fox.

Confession #1: I had no idea who Amanda Palmer was until a few days ago. Confession #2: I didn’t go to Amanda Palmer’s show.

Melville's New Anti-Salon

I recently got my hair cut at Freedom Hair, one of the newest quirky spots on 7th Street in Melville. My review appeared this week on JHBLive. For those of you who aren’t following JHBLive yet (if you live in Joburg you should be), I’ve reposted my review below. Enjoy.

Message From a Happy Hillbrow Cat

My name is Tiger and I am a happy cat in Hillbrow.

Hillbrow isn’t an easy place to live, especially for cats. But I’m a survivor. When I was a baby, a man found me and took me to live in the basement at the Hillbrow Boxing Club. I didn’t like it much at first. It’s noisy at the Hillbrow Boxing Club and some of the humans there teased me when I came.
