There’s a lot I could say about my tour of Fort William, previously known as Anomabo Fort, on Ghana’s central coast. But this photo tells most the story.

A couple of weeks ago I was in Pretoria at the Union Buildings – South Africa’s equivalent of the American White House – and saw the new Nelson Mandela statue for the first time. The statue was unveiled last December just after Mandela’s death.

Several months ago I wrote an article featuring my top ten favorite quirky places in Joburg. Kalahari Books wasn’t on the list because I didn’t know about it back then. But if I had, it totally would have been.

It’s 7:00 p.m. on Friday and we’re at the Sandton Convention Centre. We’ve spent two hours at the Joburg Art Fair and we’re hungry. We don’t want to eat at Sandton City Mall or in Nelson Mandela Square. We’re not well dressed. We don’t want to travel far. We don’t have reservations and we don’t want to spend a fortune.

I’ve already mentioned my birthday bungee jump a couple of times (see posts here and here), but it’s taken me more than a month to edit the video footage from the GoPro camera I wore during the jump. I’m finally ready to tell the story.
