Lockdown Journal: Day 41 (My Airing of Grievances)

Read all my lockdown journal posts.

It’s Day 41 of the South African lockdown. Today I would like to air my grievances.

For those of you unfamiliar with the concept, the “Airing of Grievances” was made famous by Seinfeld character Frank Costanza in the 1990s. The Airing of Grievances usually takes place during the fake holiday of Festivus, on 23 December. Festivus the holiday has its own website with a page devoted to the Airing of Grievances.

A Must-Have Item for Every Garden in Johannesburg

Do you live in Johannesburg? Do you have a garden, or know someone who does? Do you have R400 to spend? If so, then you need this:

If you don’t live in Joburg and don’t know what a hadeda is, read here. But these hadedas are not easily transportable, so unless you already live in Joburg (or at least in South Africa) then you probably can’t have one.

2Summers Extreme Makeover

I’ve had a weird couple of months. After epic trips around South Africa, Reunion Island, and the United States, I returned to Joburg via Istanbul with a case of raging jet lag. My cat ran away. Then he came back. And there’s been plenty more that I haven’t written about on my blog.

Screech of the Hadeda

On August 8, 2010, I published my first blog post from South Africa. The first photo in that post was a picture of a hadeda in my back yard.
