A bit of background: Ray and I planned a trip to the Wild Coast, which you can read about in this dramatic series of posts. The Wild Coast is too far from Joburg to drive to in one day so we stopped in Durban along the way, and then again on the way back. Knysna (pronounced NIZE-nuh) is a small resort town in South Africa’s Western Cape, on the picturesque section of coastline between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth called the Garden Route. I visited Knysna for the first time last week to attend the annual Knysna Oyster Festival.

A couple of weeks ago I spent the weekend at Leobo Private Reserve, one of the most amazing lodges in South Africa (in my opinion at least). I traveled to Leobo in my colleague Theresa’s brand-new Landrover, which was pretty luxurious. But as if I weren’t already lucky enough, I got to travel home from Leobo in a helicopter.
