A Weekend Getaway to Maropeng

I recently wrote an article for JHBlive.com about a weekend that I spent at the Maropeng Hotel in the Cradle of Humankind, just north of Joburg. (See the original article here.) I’ve finally gotten around to posting the story on my blog. Enjoy:

Morning Stroll Through Hillbrow and Yeoville

I took a quick photowalk through Hillbrow and Yeoville this morning with my friend Ruth and some guys from the Hillbrow Boxing Club, including my boxing coach George Khosi. I’m saving most of the photos I took for a project that I’ll be revealing soon. But I took a few special shots for this post.

Pop-Up Travel: Paraty, Brazil

My trip to Brazil is almost a distant memory now, but there is still one part of the trip that I haven’t told you much about. In between Christmas and New Years my family and I spent three days in Paraty – a small town turned tourist hot spot – a couple of hours from Rio. (See my previous post about an amazing Paraty bag shop where I found the perfect camera bag.)

Photoblogging Competition: The Four Elements

I was recently invited to enter a photoblogging competition called “Explore the Elements”, sponsored by the British travel company Thomas Cook. I don’t do this kind of thing very often on my blog, but the contest has a really interesting theme that I can’t resist. Plus I have the chance to win some pretty nice prizes.

Sunset + Giraffes = Beautiful

I don’t think there’s much more I can say about this.

Giraffe sunset

Giraffes at sunset, shot last night near the Ndzuti Safari Camp.

I just got back from four days in the Klaserie Game Reserve, just outside of Kruger National Park. I’ll have much more to say about the trip in a future post but for now I want to share this one photo.

Instawalking Through Alex (With a DSLR)

On Sunday I helped organize an Instawalk through Alexandra Township, sponsored by the South African Cities Network and Mobile Media Mob.

I’ve been to Alex many times and I’ve gone on Instawalks many times, but this was my first time going on an Instawalk in Alex. In fact I’m pretty sure this was the first organized Alex Instawalk, ever.
